Did You Know that the Official Day of Rotary’s PolioPlus Eradication Campaign is October 24th?

And did you know that …….

When Rotary launched PolioPlus in 1985, polio paralyzed about 350,000 children every year across 125 countries. By the early 2020s, the number had dropped below 200 cases worldwide and wild poliovirus type 2 and tuype 3 had been certified eradicated.

This is one of the great public-health achievements in human history, and Rotary is the reason it happened.

Did You Know that the Official Day of Rotary’s PolioPlus Eradication Campaign is October 24th?

And did you know that …….

As of the most recent reports from the Rotary Foundation:

  • Wild poliovirus cases were reduced by more than 99.9% since 1988
  • More than 20 million people are walking today who would have been paralyzed without the campaign
  • More than 3 billion children have been vaccinated
  • Wild poliovirus types 2 and 3 are certified eradicated
  • Rotary's direct contribution: over $2.6 billion raised, with billions more in matched funding from the Gates Foundation

The 99.9% number is what gets repeated, but the gap between 99.9% and 100% is where the hardest work lives.
